Evan is a huge fan of tattoos, and currently has nine tattoos (as confirmed in a 2011 interview with Esquire). Several of these have been altered/changed over the years, so it’s hard to keep track!

This is the first tattoo Evan got, in honour of filming Across the Universe, with it being symbolic of the different Beatles songs:

“That movie changed my life. I got a freakin’ tattoo on my ankle for the movie. It’s strawberries, where the leaves are in the shape of a blackbird and diamonds for (Beatles song) ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.’ I got to sing ‘Blackbird’ (in the film) and my (character) name is Lucy in the film, so I got the diamonds. I kind of always thought I would get a tattoo but I was waiting for something really special. This was a moment in my life I wanted to mark. I turned 18 and I was living on my own for the first time and I was in New York filming a Beatles musical. I thought it was a good time.”

This tattoo was eventually replaced by her “Crazy Diamond” tattoo, as she said people kept mistaking it for “a ferret sticking out of an apple”. Evan said that ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ by Pink Floyd is her favourite song of all-time, and the diamond also represents ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’.

Since it originally covered up her Beatles tattoo, it has since been modified slightly, with more swirls added, and a faint green highlight.

The ‘J’ tattoo is in memory of Evan’s relationship, with actor Jamie Bell. Jamie has an ‘E’ tattooed on his inner-arm. Since they got back together in 2011, Evan has started covering up her ‘Crazy Diamond’ tattoo when attending events, but still shows this tattoo.

The number 15 is, according to an interview with BlackBook Magazine, Evan’s lucky number.

On her first Valentine’s with Marilyn Manson, they both got matching black hearts to symbolize ‘crazy love’, and Evan got a lightning bolt through the middle of hers, for David Bowie.

Evan has the Edgar Allen Poe quote ‘All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream’ tattooed between her shoulder blades on her back.

This tattoo was unveiled during her NYLON photoshoot. She simultaneously got her nose pierced in the same day. Evan has the word ‘unless’ tattoo across her ribcage, taken from the Dr Seuss book The Lorax.

Evan has a Shel Silverstein drawing of a candle on her lower back. This was unveiled in her Esquire interview/photoshoot, so it is not known exactly when she got it. She recently tweeted a clearer picture of it.

First spotted in the October edition of Marie Claire, Evan has a heart tattoo behind her ear.

Evan admitted in her Esquire interview that she has a tattoo on the inside of her lip. She says that “No one gets to see it or know what it says.”
